Types of animation

An animation is a dynamic medium in which images or objects are manipulated to appear as moving images.
There are 5 main types of animation:
Traditional animation
2D Vector-based animation
3D computer animation
Motion graphics
Stop motion

Traditional animation
Traditional animation or classical animation, or hand-drawn animation is
an animation technique where each frame is drawn by hand.

2D Vector-based animation
2D animation creates movement in a two-dimensional artistic space. Work in the field
of 2D animation requires both creativity and technological skills.

3D computer animation
3D animation is digitally modeled and manipulated by an animator. The animator usually
starts by creating a 3D polygon mesh to manipulate. A mesh typically includes many
vertices that are connected by edges and faces, which give the visual appearance of
form to a 3D object or 3D environment. Sometimes, the mesh is given an internal digital
skeletal structure called an armature that can be used to control the mesh by weighting
the vertices. This process is called rigging and can be used in conjunction with keyframes
to create movement.

Motion graphics
Motion graphics are pieces of digital footage or animation which create the illusion of
motion or rotation and are usually combined with audio for use in multimedia projects.

Stop motion
Stop motion is an animation technique that physically manipulates an object so that it
appears to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually
photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is
played as a fast sequence.
